Once upon a time in Greece...
I’m feeling particularly wistful at the moment, a certain longing for faraway yet familiar places, as this time of year is a special one for me - It’s the height of the European summer and usually a time for travel and exploration. While I lived in Switzerland, I would count down to July and August because during these months, after a long Swiss winter, I would escape to the Greek Islands, savouring lingering moments in the cygnet blue waters of the Aegean sea.
The tides have definitely turned with overseas travel currently off the table and a little one on the way. And while it’s no doubt an exciting time for our family, it’s also a time of reflection, and I can’t deny my growing sense of yearning and nostalgia for those carefree holidays in Greece.
In the meantime, I’m grateful for the special memories I do have of the magical places I’ve discovered, and here I share some photos from my most recent trip in July 2019 to Naxos and Tinos islands.
As we all do, I hold onto hope that we’ll be able to travel again soon, to reunite and enjoy special times with friends and family far and near - hopefully in a small taverna, sipping ouzo under an olive tree as sail boats glide by on a distant blue sea.

In the Mediterranean, moments leave their mark for years to come, mental pictures we carry and revisit when our spirits need a boost and words that act as magic spells against tough times.
A highlight of Naxos island is Apollonas, an old port town tucked away in the most distant corner of the island and surrounded by rugged mountains.
In Naxos, we spent as much time as we could soaking up the sun on the island’s perfectly untouched beaches.
I couldn’t help but capture some photos of our Traveller against the many stunning backdrops the islands have to offer. Pictured here is the Le Weekend Traveller in Sand, the perfect accessory on the road.
The beautiful cliffside village of Kardiani, the greenest on the island of Tinos and famous for its natural springs.
The wondrous thing about this island is that it has the power to change you. It makes you a believer in beauty, in something higher, almost superior.
Tinos will always be a place I will return to time and again..
