Our Story
It all started with a trip to the beach on a warm autumn’s afternoon. It was Saturday and for us, Megan and Joanna (sisters-in-law and long-time friends), all that lay ahead was a carefree weekend filled with sunshine, good food and a few glasses of crisp rosé.
It was innocent enough at the time. A casual conversation, like so many others, on the drive home along Byron Bay Hinterland’s meandering roads. We were feeling truly relaxed, salty and sandy after a couple of hours’ picnicking and swimming at Broken Head’s back beaches. These were the days where casual conversations could lead anywhere, sometimes for hours, completely unchecked. The days before wedding planning and house hunting, before nap times and nappy changes. We were relishing quality time together totally switched off from the world.
After long deliberation over that evening’s dinner menu, somewhere between Newrybar and Nashua, the conversation turned to our love for picnics, for bringing friends and family together, slowing down and appreciating the simple things in life.
We reminisced on some of our greatest picnicking moments; at the top of the Pyrenees during Le Tour de France, long summer’s evenings by Lake Zurich, a rainy Brisbane weekend turned impromptu picnic in the living room of Joanna’s old flat.
The conversation then turned to finding the perfect picnic basket – something neither of us had had any success in. Everything we had seen seemed too conventional, mass-produced and conservative…not our style.
And then it dawned on us – we should design our own picnic basket!
And so the idea for Le Weekend was born.
Drawing on our background in the creative industries, and with a shared appreciation for creating beautiful spaces inside and outside, for being truly immersed in nature, for travel and exploration, and a home filled with cherished objects from around the world, our vision emerged – to help others create unique experiences through sophisticated, timeless lifestyle pieces.
Following an extensive design process seeking out skilled artisans and the highest quality materials and finishes, today Le Weekend brings this vision to life with its collection of handcrafted picnic baskets and functional kitchen linens and accessories that embrace a simple yet sophisticated aesthetic where less is always more. All products are designed in the Byron Bay Hinterland and sold via the online store and selected boutiques across Australia.
We hope you enjoy and cherish your Le Weekend items for many years to come, and may they bear witness to many casual conversations with loved ones that lead to all sorts of wondrous places, enjoyed with a glass or two of crisp rosé…
